Desiree Dorion’s release, Soul Back Jack, earned her the Best Country Album honour at this year’s Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards . Dorion was also up for Best Female Artist. Desiree picked up an Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Award nomination earlier this year in the Best Country CD category.
Brad Moggie rounded out the Manitoba winners, taking home the Best Fiddle Album award for his release, All Fired Up.

Canadian Country Music Association Announces Saskatoon As Home To Country Music Week And The 2012 CCMA Awards
The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) announced today that Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has been selected to host Country Music Week and the Canadian Country Music Awards in 2012. This will mark the first time that Saskatoon has ever hosted country music’s biggest week in Canada.
Doc Walker was awarded Country Recording of the Year, for their album ‘Go’, at this years Western Canadian Music Awards held in Kelowna on October 24.
The 2nd Annual Country for Cancer event was an incredible success with hours of great entertainment. The MCMA would like to thank everyone that volunteered at the event selling tickets and helping with the prizes and draws. We had an amazing team of volunteers that helped keep the event running smoothly. We would like to thank Mainstage backline for working the stage, and all the performers that gave their time to support such a worthwhile cause – Hurricane Jenny (previously known as Steel City), Day After Nashville, Hard Miles Band, Roundup Band, Chris Bigford, KK and the Dirty Scotch Boys, Cindi Cane and the Foster Martin Band. Thank you to Grant Goss of Goss Productions and his team for recording the event. Special thanks to all the sponsors for their generous donations. Five killed in horrific collision

Country rock trio Doc Walker premiered its CMT music special, Doc Walker’s Dock Party: Live in Kelowna, on October 16. Recorded at a free outdoor concert in Kelowna last summer, encore airings of the special are scheduled for November 2 and December 27. The four-time CCMA Group of the Year will also release the show to DVD this November 2.

MANITOBA ACTS LAND 11 CANADIAN ABORIGINAL MUSIC AWARD NODS
Five Manitoba recording artists have netted 11 nominations at the 2010 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards (CAMA). The 12th annual awards are held in conjunction with the Canadian Aboriginal Festival, which runs November 26-28, 2010 in Hamilton, Ontario. The hardware will be handed out at a gala event on November 26 at the Hamilton Place Theatre.
Rock outfit Eagle & Hawk has landed an impressive five nods for its latest release, The Great Unknown. The band is up for Best Album of the Year, Best Group or Duo, Best Rock Album, Best Songwriter, and Best Producer Engineer. The Great Unknown has racked up 15 award nods this year, including the CAMAs, Western Canadian Music Awards, Native American Music Awards, Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, and Canadian Folk Music awards, and a win in the Contemporary Modern Instrumental category at the Indian Summer Music Awards.
Country chanteuse Desiree Dorion is a double nominee this year, picking up nods for Best Female Artist and Best Country Album for her new album, Soul Back Jack. Dorion is also up for the upcoming Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards in the Best Country CD category.
Another double nominee, hip hop act Skelpa Squad, is up for Best Rap or Hip Hop Album for its new release, The Thief & Council, and Best Rap or Hip Hop Music Video for the album’s title track. Skelpa Squad also picked up an APCMA nod for Best Rap / Hip Hop CD.
Other nominees include Al Desjarlais and his album Winds of Change Best Country Album and Brad Moggie for Best Fiddle Album for his release, All Fired Up.

Doc Walker returned home to Manitoba with their third CCMA award for Group or Duo of the Year. Band members Steve Broadurst won CCMA All-Star Band honours for Drums and Murray Pulver won for guitar. Doc Walker Picks Up 11 Canadian Country Music Award Nominations
Doc Walker continues to dominate Canada’s country music world this year, landing nominations for five artistic and six industry awards at the 2010 Canadian Country Music Awards.
Doc Walker will compete for its third consecutive Group of the Year title. The band is also up for the Fan’s Choice Award, Single of the Year, Songwriters of the Year, and Album of the Year. Three members of Doc Walker are also up for the All-Star Band Award, including guitarist Murray Pulver, bassist Brent Pearen, and drummer Steve Broadhurst. Doc Walker’s team picked up industry nods for Website of the Year, Album Design of the Year, and Video Director of the Year.
Canada’s longest running country music festival kicks off in Dauphin on July 1, offering music fans some of the best in country music as well as a variety of other genres. Dauphin’s Countryfest, now celebrating its 21st year, hits the north side of Riding Mountain National Park, 10 km south of Dauphin, and runs for four days of local, national, and international entertainment on three separate stages.
This year’s festival features a strong group of Manitoba performers, including country singer/songwriter Bryce Pallister, all-female bluegrass quartet Oh My Darling, fiddlers the D’Aoust Brothers, bluegrass monsters The D.Rangers, blues/roots guitarist extraordinaire Chris Carmichael, and indie rock outfit Take With Audio.
Other headliners include Keith Urban, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Kellie Pickler, Aaron Pritchett, Shane Yellowbird, Terri Clarke, and The Higgins.
Ray St. Germain will be inducted to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Honour in a special induction ceremony on Friday, September 10th in Edmonton. The announcement was made by the Canadian Country Music Association on June 8 in Toronto.
“We felt it suitable that in 2010 we would honour ten artists who were pioneers and ground-breakers in our rich country music history as there were so many deserving of this induction – and what a list it is!” said Jill Snell-de Cartier, Chair of the Hall of Honour Electors Committee.“These visionaries are all legends and treasured Canadians – each carved their own path and helped pave the road for the incredible talent we see growing in this flourishing market each year. We look forward to seeing these talented recipients and their families in Edmonton this year at the Hall of Honour ceremony, sure to be this year’s most moving CCMA highlight. Congratulations to one and all on this remarkable achievement.”
Donna & Leroy Anderson, Willie P. Bennett, Marie Bottrell, Eddie Eastman, Don Harron, Fred McKenna, Wayne Rostad, Joyce Smith and Hal & Ginger Willis will also be inducted on September 10th.
Ray is an award winning recording artist and stage show performer/producer. He recently wrote his autobiography “I Wanted to be Elvis, so What was I doing in Moose Jaw?” Ray has plans to release a new album this year, entitled “We All Make Mistakes Sometimes.”
Ray has been seen nationally on CBC, Global, APTN and CKY as a performer, television producer/singer/host. Ray was also the radio host/program manager at NCI FM.

It’s a “country meets kids” mash-up at the next Bluebird North songwriters’ showcase at Winnipeg’s Park Theatre & Café on June 8.
On the card for the next Bluebird North concert event are some of Manitoba’s biggest icons, packing huge musical muscles, incredible vocal chops and formidable talent.
Bluebird North: Where Writers Sing and Tell is a songwriters’ showcase presented by the Songwriters Association of Canada (S.A.C.). Every show features a different line-up of talented Canadian songwriters, who take turns sharing songs and stories in an informal, acoustic atmosphere. In Winnipeg, Bluebird North is produced by Chris Burke-Gaffney for the S.A.C.
The June 8 event features Doc Walker frontman Chris Thorsteinson, country singer/songwriter Bryce Pallister, legendary children’s performer Fred Penner, and Phil Deschambault with Ash Koley. QX104 FM radio personality Troy Westwood, aka singer/songwriter Little Hawk, will host the event.
