Winnipeg’s Favourite Musical Duo Go Country Keith and Renée Introduce New Sound at CD Release Party
(August 18, 2011 – Winnipeg, MB) – Winnipeg’s favourite pop duo has gone a little bit country. Keith and Renée’s fifth CD Best Day demonstrates a natural progression of their sound, inspired by their tours in the U.S. and Africa.
Best Day will be launched at a CD release party at the West End Cultural Centre on Friday September 16th at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. The CD’s title track was released to radio in early July and is already receiving spins on country radio stations across the country and on CBC Radio.
“We always try to capture something new to keep our career fresh and interesting. Going pop/country wasn’t really planned—it was just natural for us to try country,” says Renée Lamoureux. “We love to sing about our personal stories. The people we’ve encountered, how they’ve played a role in our lives, what we’ve experienced.”
The duo has experienced more in the last fifteen years than most of us do in a lifetime. From spending two summers in Kenya as ambassadors for Free the Children, to Keith Macpherson’s stint on Canadian Idol and having their song Good Year chosen as the theme for Manitoba’s 2010 Homecoming campaign, they’ve come a long way from their first awkward meeting at a church in Ile des Chenes.
“Our new album has many themes that speak of finding happiness in each moment,” Macpherson explains. “I attribute this lesson and message to the friends we made on our trips overseas.”

Winnipeg songwriting tandem earns #1 country song and video in Australia(August 2, 2011 – Winnipeg, MB) –Winnipeg songwriters Chris Burke-Gaffney and Keith Macpherson have scored their first #1 hit in Australia. The duo collaborated with Australia’s Jetty Road’s on the song “Serves You Right.” The single officially topped the Aussie country chart this week: www.countrymusicradio.com.au/CT30/chart.cfm
In addition to topping the radio chart, “Serves You Right” also reached the #1 spot in June on Country Music Channel of Australia’s Top 30 video chart. You can watch the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6dDQdsNf4c
In North America, the single for “Serves You Right” was also broadcast this summer in medium rotation on CMT Canada and has been featured on CMT USA’s website. Furthermore, the single has been added or featured on dozens of radio stations across North America.
The collaboration between Australia’s 2010 Country Group of The Year (Country Music Awards of Australia), Chris Burke-Gaffney and Keith Macpherson took place last summer in Winnipeg at Burke-Gaffney’s studio. “We originally thought it wasn’t going to work with six songwriters in one room,” remembers Burke-Gaffney. “However, as a quartet, they’re a talented, focused group and the song came together pretty quickly.”
“Who needs Nashville when you can have Winnipeg,” quips Jetty Road’s Lee Bowman. “Chris and Keith are amazing songwriters and I can see them becoming in real big demand in country circles for quality songs. They’re top-notch talent.”
No strangers to writing great country songs, Chris Burke-Gaffney co-writes and manages The Keats from Nova Scotia; and Keith Macpherson is one half of the up-and-coming dynamic country crossover duo, Keith and Renée. Furthermore, Burke-Gaffney and Macpherson co-wrote “Possibility” with Sierra Noble. The song received considerable radio and video airplay which led to a US record deal with Decca Records for Noble.
“Manitoba has a great country music history with world class songwriters” says Dennis Sincock, President of Manitoba Country Music Association. “Chris and Keith are just a couple in a long line of successful Manitoba country songwriters achieving success at home and around the world.”
“Serves You Right” is the second single from the band’s debut album Far Away Places with Nashville’s On Ramp Records. The album was released in June. It is available everywhere and www.musicmax.ca
